The NBA sorted the groups based on conferences, placing all 15 teams from each conference into five pots according to their performance in the previous season’s standings. Specifically, Pot 1 included teams that secured the 1st to 3rd positions in the regular-season record, Pot 2 had teams that landed in the 4th to 6th spots, Pot 3 was comprised of teams in the 7th to 9th positions, Pot 4 encompassed teams in the 10th to 12th positions, and Pot 5 consisted of teams that finished 13th to 15th.
